In the US, DreamCloud are a highly-recognisable brand of mattress but over here in the UK it’s fair to say that they haven’t really made much of a splash yet. You’ve heard of Simba and Emma but probably only recently heard of DreamCloud. Maybe you saw a Facebook advert and it piqued your interest.

However DreamCloud are one of the UK’s fastest-growing brands of pillowtop mattresses, the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress  model in particular is one to watch.

And that’s the model I’m going to review here – the latest (version 2) that has only just been launched recently in the UK.

By the way, if you’ve never heard of “pillowtop” before, that means it has a very soft, luxurious upper layer – if you like laying on comfy layers like soft clouds then don’t overlook the Dreamcloud. But this mattress, although incorrectly sometimes called a pillowtop, is actually a hybrid mattress. That means it’s a combination of both a pocket spring and a memory foam. Anyway, enough technical information for now. What you really want to know is: is the Dreamcloud mattress worth buying?

Overview: DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid mattress

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty right away.

Pros

  • Pillowtop layer gives incredible comfort
  • Well-reviewed and received in the US
  • 365 night trial
  • Reinforced edge support
  • Lengthy ‘freedom’ warranty
  • Surprisingly affordable, if there’s a sale

Cons

  • Not flippable (like all hybrids)
  • Not the cheapest to buy (if full price)
  • Limited sizes, i.e. no EU sizes
  • Edge support could be improved
  • Not machine washable, protector required

In a nutshell the Dreamcloud Luxury mattress is best described as a mid-range to premium-range mattress, similar to the Brook & Wilde range or even the more pricey Tempur range. If you are in the market for a higher-end mattress with comfy support, soft comfy quilted top and an extended warranty period then definitely consider the DreamCloud – but be aware of the drawbacks.

DreamCloud Luxury Mattress: History

This review covers the newer, dark blue version (version 2) of the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid mattress, though you can still buy the version 1.

A brief history of this mattress to start: Version 2 launched in the United States all the way back in 2021, but has only recently come to the UK and Europe. You may not have heard of the parent company – called Resident Home (link) – but you will have more than likely heard of some of the other mattress brands they own, such as Nectar.

And the similarities with Nectar vs DreamCloud don’t stop there – there is a 365-night trial on every purchase. That’s pretty generous, when most companies offer ‘only’ 200-nights – though Eve have recently started offering 365-nights too.

About the Layers

There are actually four (4) layers here, in this hybrid mattress, plus the cover:

  1. Luxury Pillow/Quilted Top – breathable, premium softness
  2. “Dream Plush” Breathable Supporting Memory Foam – deep contouring support, adjusts to position
  3. Support Foam – keeps body fully supported and cradled
  4. Reinforced Edge Spring Unit – 15cm pocket springs, exceptional support, minimizes motion transfer
  5. Support Foam Base – absorbs motion, provides additional support

1. The cover

The top cover is the softest pillow-like feel I have come across in a mattress, it’s as simple as that.

The DreamCloud mattress features a quilted cover made of a soft, breathable fabric that helps regulate temperature while you sleep. The cover is designed to be durable and easy to care for, and adds a layer of plushness to the overall feel of the mattress. The quilted pattern of the cover adds some visual interest to the mattress and helps to prevent the top layers of foam from shifting around. Overall, the cover provides a comfortable and classy finishing touch to the DreamCloud mattress. It looks like a much more expensive mattress than it really is.

2. “Dream Plush” Memory Foam

“Dream Plush” is a term used by DreamCloud to describe a type of memory foam that is used in their mattresses. It’s a high-density foam that provides a soft, plush feel and conforms to the body’s curves, helping to relieve pressure points. The foam is also designed to be breathable, helping to keep sleepers cool throughout the night.

While the term “Dream Plush” is a marketing term, it generally refers to a higher quality memory foam that provides a comfortable and supportive sleeping surface.

3. Polyfoam/Support Layer

This layer provides deep contouring support that adjusts to your position all night long, and helps prevent motion transfer. It has a breathable design to help regulate temperature and keep you cool.

One thing to note is that, like several other brands, the Dreamcloud is Centi-PUR Certified. This means that it is made without the use of mercury or lead, and does not emit high levels of VOCs. Read more on why VOCs can be dangerous here.

However, you will probably notice if you do buy it, that the Dreamcloud is not immune to the ‘new mattress smell’ sadly – read my tips on how to limit this here. It’s just part and parcel of a hybrid/foam based mattress unfortunately.

4. Spring Unit/Layer

Unlike some hybrid such as the Simba Hybrid, DreamCloud have used full-size springs inside their coil layer here. They are 150mm (15cm) deep, so pretty big and you won’t find any of those 50mm tiny springs here.

One of the famous drawbacks of cheaper pocket sprung mattresses is that they don’t have much side support. So if you are laying on the very edge of the mattress you may drop off onto the floor as the support can be completely non-existant at the outer edges. DreamCloud claim this isn’t the case here with their so-called ActivEdge layers, but I am still waiting for clarification as to exactly what this is.

In my product testing I can confirm that the outer springs – that is, the coils nearer the left and right hand sides – did feel firmer than the rest of the springs toward the centre of the mattress. As to whether this is truly accurate or not, I will await an update from either DreamCloud or a website visitor such as yourself. Please fill out the comment form below and let me know!

5. Base foam

A high-density foam base supports the coils and additional foam layers in the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid mattress. It helps to disperse your weight and absorb motion so you don’t wake your sleeping spouse. The mattress’s longevity and support are both improved by the foundation layer.

What is the maximum weight limit?

Update: One interesting tidbit… DreamCloud say that there is NO maximum weight limit to their mattresses, as they are bolstered to support ‘any’ weight. I found this hard to believe; avid readers will know that every other mattress comes with a weight limit. For example, the Eve Sleep mattress has a combined weight limit of 22 stone – not much for two larger adults.

I was alerted by a website visitor that they had finally found a mattress suitable for heavier people; their combined weight is 42 stone and the user (Rebecca) claims that the DreamCloud is holding up perfectly well, with minimal to no sagging.

Therefore it’s a safe bet that this mattress is okay for heavier people.

Comfort

The DreamCloud mattress has a thick 28cm profile and a 4cm comfort layer, which provides a classic memory foam feel with lots of hug and contouring around the body. However, the response time of the mattress is slow, which means that it takes a bit longer to adjust to changes in sleeping position.

During performance testing, the DreamCloud mattress was found to have good cooling overall, although it did retain a slight to moderate level of heat while lying on it. The top layers of foam, even within the quilted cover, feel particularly dense and more capable of retaining heat, which may contribute to the slight heat retention experienced during testing.

The pocketed coil base of the DreamCloud mattress helps improve cooling, adds bounce, and enhances edge support. It also provides good pressure relief and motion isolation, which means that movement on one side of the mattress does not transfer to the other side as much as it would on other mattresses.

Support

In comparison to its sister brand Nectar and the Nectar Memory Foam mattress in particular, DreamCloud’s cooling performance surprisingly falls a bit short. While Nectar offers all-foam models, these outperformed DreamCloud in terms of cooling. So if cooling is a crucial factor for you as a sleeper, it might be worth considering one of the Nectar mattresses instead of DreamCloud.

However, when it comes to sinkage, DreamCloud outperformed the average of all mattresses tested to date, including Nectar. During performance testing, DreamCloud’s sinkage depth was measured at 7cm, which is notably deeper than the average sinkage depth of 3.5cm across all mattresses tested so far.

In test

The slow response time of the DreamCloud mattress can be attributed to its top layer of memory foam, which provides a classic memory foam feel with deep contouring and sinkage. However, this slow response time can make it difficult to move around on the mattress and change positions during the night.

If you prioritise quick response time and ease of movement, the DreamCloud may not be the best option for you. Consider looking at other mattresses that feature more responsive materials, such as latex or hybrid mattresses with a thinner memory foam layer.

Sleep Styles – Does it suit me?

Sleepers who may like the DreamCloud mattress:

  • Stomach and back sleepers: The DreamCloud mattress provides excellent support for these sleeping positions, thanks to its medium-firm feel and 8.5” pocketed coil layer.
  • Sleepers who prefer a firmer mattress: With a firmness rating of 7 out of 10, the DreamCloud is firmer than most other medium mattresses and may be a good option for those who like a firmer feel.
  • Sleepers who enjoy a classic memory foam feel: The DreamCloud mattress has a top layer of breathable memory foam that provides deep contouring support, resulting in a classic memory foam feel that some sleepers may enjoy.

Sleepers who maybe won’t like the DreamCloud mattress:

  • Side sleepers: While the DreamCloud mattress can provide adequate support for side sleepers, the deep sinkage and high hug may make it difficult for some to maintain proper spinal alignment.
  • Sleepers who prefer a softer mattress: The DreamCloud’s medium-firm feel may not be suitable for those who prefer a softer, more plush mattress.
  • Sleepers who are sensitive to heat: The DreamCloud has good but not great cooling performance, and may retain more heat than some sleepers would prefer.

Summary of Tests:

The DreamCloud mattress performs admirably overall, but it has a few drawbacks.

Firstly, edge support is one of these features that is good but not fantastic. Some sleepers may not appreciate the sinkage that occurs near the edge.

Pressure alleviation is satisfactory but not exceptional. It’s tough to put a finger on why this is the case, but the mattress’s quilted cover and top foam layers may be to blame for excessive sinkage and a dense feel.

The DreamCloud is a good option for many people who are looking for a new mattress, but it may not be the greatest choice for those who need extra help with things like edge support or pressure relief.

Design

The look of the DreamCloud Luxury mattress may be important to some people and not others. After all most of us will cover it up with a fitted sheet. So does it really matter how it looks? Well, yes and no.

There is only one colour option available for the DreamCloud and that is the white top and navy blue sides, as per the image above.

The older version has more bronze-coloured or pink sides, but this current newer version is a lot nicer visually, in my opinion.

The double-tufted look may not be for everyone but it’s entirely possible to cover it up with a standard sized UK fitted sheet if you’re not keen. I personally think it looks luxurious and high-end as it is, but always cover my mattresses over with a protector. This is particularly important as the outer fabric is NOT machine washable.

Thankfully, DreamCloud sell a cheap mattress protector here, for around £45.60, and while they often give you free bedding sets, this should really be thrown in for free in my opinion when spending so much on a mattress.

DreamCloud Sleep: user feedback & reviews

According to Trustpilot, the UK version of Dreamcloud is rated 4.3 out of 5. This compares reasonably well with other brands like Simba (4.3 / 5), Nectar Sleep (4.4 / 5) and Emma (4.0 / 5). There isn’t a huge amount of variation in terms of the review websites and how they rate the bigger mattress brands.

One thing I did notice about the reviews for DreamCloud are that they are “invited”. You can see below in the screenshot, next to the green stars, it says “Invited”. This means that DreamCloud – like other mattress brands too – are inviting their customers to add a review. Usually this is done under the guise of a chance of winning a refund, i.e. if you review us we will randomly select you for a refund.

So of course this means that the inevitable result is that people are reviewing the checkout and purchase process, and possibly short-term usage of the Dreamcloud mattress. In other words, you aren’t going to find many longer term reviews here of the product itself. It’s a shame, but for that, you will need to keep reading as I have done a hands-on review here.

It’s worth noting that sorting by 1* and 2* shows a few niggling issues, but mainly with delivery. During COVID-19 this is not surprising and longer delivery times are to be expected. I could not find many negative longer-term reviews on Truspilot, interestingly.

Free Bedding Set

The DreamCloud mattress comes with an exciting offer of a free bedding set at the moment. The bedding set is made from 300 thread count cotton sateen, which is known for its durability, fresh, crisp, and cool feel. The bedding set includes a fitted sheet, duvet cover, and two pillowcases, except for the single size, which comes with one pillowcase.

This bedding set is a perfect complement to the luxurious DreamCloud mattress, adding an extra touch of comfort and elegance to your bedroom. The combination of cotton sateen and the satin weave structure ensures that the bedding set remains cool and fresh, even after several washes.

To take advantage of this offer, simply purchase the DreamCloud mattress and enter the voucher code at checkout to save 55% off the mattress price and receive the free bedding set. This offer is an excellent way to upgrade your sleep experience and add a touch of luxury to your bedroom at an affordable price.

Plus, when you buy the mattress (any size), you also get a DreamCloud Duvet at no extra cost. With four available sizes and a construction of high-tech SmartfilTM fibres coupled with 20% modal for temperature regulation, this item is a must-have for every season.

The duvet has a microfibre cover with a textured design that is gentle to the touch and hypoallergenic. The 10.5 Tog rating and the fact that it is machine-washable at 60 degrees make it an excellent year-round choice.

DreamCloud: Pricing in the UK

You may note from the above pricing table, that there are only four sizes available in the UK. This is a shame, as I would have liked to have seen a toddler size for kids and smaller people, or even a small single. If you are looking for a kid’s mattress then check out my reviews here first.

Verdict on DreamCloud mattresses

Here is a quick rundown of the good and bad points of the DreamCloud (UK model):

After reviewing the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid mattress, it’s clear to me that it’s a great option for those who prefer a firmer sleeping surface. The 28cm thick mattress has a combination of foam and pocketed coils, providing excellent support and contouring to the body. The individually wrapped coils help to minimise motion transfer, so you won’t be disturbed by a restless partner.

While the mattress does have good cooling, it’s not the best I’ve seen, so if you tend to sleep hot, you may want to consider other options.

Overall, the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid offers a comfortable and supportive sleep experience, and the budget-friendly pricing- when on offer – is a bonus. I’m not sure if I would pay full price for it, as prices start at around £1300, which is a lot.

Most of all though, If you’re a back or stomach sleeper who prefers a firmer mattress and wants a pillowtop hybrid, the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid could be the perfect choice for you.

  • Certi-PUR certified (what’s this?)
  • Made in the UK
  • 28cm deep (about average, will fit most standard sheets)
  • Cover not washable
  • 365 night trial
  • Forever warranty
  • Quite pricey but oozes quality

If you are in the market and are lucky enough to be able to afford the DreamCloud then I’d say go for it. There’s very little on the market here in the UK that can even compare to the quality of the DreamCloud mattress. But make sure to use one of the Dreamcloud discount codes to save around £200 off, first.

Is the Dreamcloud Luxury mattress worth it?

If you're after a luxury mattress then you're probably considering between Tempur, Brook and Wilde, and DreamCloud. Well I have to say based on price alone, the Tempur range are just too expensive. There are pros and cons to both the other two, but on balance I would say that DreamCloud have the slight edge. Why? Because they are more established, in the USA at least, and the 365-night trial is a clincher.

How long is the night trial?

The number of nights you will get, to try out your new DreamCloud mattress is exactly one year, or 365 nights. That's very generous, and should give even the most discerning buyer enough time to make up their mind. Note that most brands offer 100 - 200 nights now.

How much is the Dreamcloud mattress in the UK?

The pricing is listed above in the table; the cheapest single starts at £849 before any discount. That's a lot, but this is a luxury/higher end mattress. NB: If you are looking for a cheaper mid-range mattress then check out OTTY Pure, one of my favourites.

  1. I’ve purchased the Dreamcloud luxury hybrid bundle. My mattress won’t be here until Monday but the quilt and bedding arrived in a NECTAR box? Why is this?

  2. I bought two of them, one for me, one for my daughter who has recently gone through a messy breakup. I got the Kingsize one for me, and the Single for my daughter, it’s important that my daughter has the highest quality items. I would never mention it to her but I hope that she remembers everything I’ve done for her. x

  3. Irene, I ended up buying three of them. Aren’t they great? I also bought the pillows. They look wonderful in our former orangery.

  4. heya we bought the dreamcloud for my spare bedroom and guests always comment how much they love it and where did i get it. in the end we bought one for my son who was off to univserity as well. they are really that good i highly recommend them and no i am not working for the company!

  5. Well I can tell you what the maximum weight is. After ringing dreamcloud and trying to find out if my husband and I would be suitable, as we are both heavy people, they informed me that their was no possible weight limit and they have tested over 300kg?! As they offer a year long trial I decided to bite the bullet and see how it goes and here I am after around 45 days of usage, reporting back to your previous commenter that the dreamcloud mattress is doing okay still. I will continue to post back
