Hyde & Sleep (or H&S), by Dreams Ltd, are one of the original mattress-in-a-box companies in the UK.
They actually sell a few different mattress models in the UK, which can get a bit confusing. I have explained each of them here separately below: click through to read more on each ‘variety’ and I will explain the pros and cons of each.
Hyde & Sleep in a nutshell:
The first set of mattresses by Hyde & Sleep are hybrid mattresses. If you don’t know what these are, then you can read more about the best hybrid mattresses here. Essentially, this means they are memory foam on one layer, but also with pocket springs on another layer, i.e. a combination. A bit like a combi-boiler but for beds.
Confusingly, all Hyde & Sleep mattresses are named after colours, across the different ranges.
Hybrid mattresses:
- Hyde & Sleep Hybrid Blueberry mattress
- Hyde & Sleep Hybrid Raspberry mattress
- Hyde & Sleep Hybrid Orange mattress
Memory foams:
- Hyde & Sleep Lemon Memory Foam mattress
- Hyde & Sleep Lilac Memory Foam mattress
These memory foam mattresses are slightly cheaper than the hybrid ones they also sell. The reason is because they don’t contain a pocket spring layer so the costs are slightly less to produce. These mattress have three different layers, and come in different firmness levels. The “Lemon” is rated as high firmness (very firm) whereas the “Lilac” is rated as being softer (medium firm). Which one suits your needs the best is a matter of debate, so I have written a full guide to each mattress above.
The “Carbon” mattress is not, strictly speaking, 100% memory foam, just “regular” foam. You will note that it’s the cheapest mattress that Hyde & Sleep sell, so it could be called a bargain mattress in a box. Currently for sale with a large discount, the reason is because it’s not full PU foam so doesn’t have the benefits of a full memory foam mattress.

About the “Dipping” issue
A few customers have reported that dipping of the mattress is particularly pronounced when it comes to those made by Hyde&Sleep. This seems to particularly be the case for larger, or heavier folk. If you are a larger framed person then I would suggest to avoid the Hyde&Sleep range, and instead read my article on the best mattresses for heavier people.
You may have noticed when typing in “Hyde & Sleep mattress”, within Google’s auto-predictive search function, “dipping” comes quite high up.
Although this isn’t a 100% accurate barometer, it would suggest a lot of customers are having this problem.
Company History
Hyde & Sleep are made in the UK and are certified CPC free. As above, they are owned by Dreams Ltd, aka Dreams.co.uk, who you’ve probably heard of 🙂 Rather than buying them out, it seems that Dreams started teh “Hyde & Sleep” brand from scratch and always wanted to run it as a separate brand.
A quick look at the reviews for Dreams UK suggest that it’s generally a well-run, popular brand with UK consumers.
Delivery information
Ordering a standard mattress usually means having to take a day off work so you can help get it through the front door but because of their easily transportable box, you can treat these mattresses like any other online delivery. Their mattress returns policy is called the ‘100 Night Rest Test’ and from that name you can pretty much guess what’s involved – if you’re happy with your mattress within 100 days of it being delivered then you can arrange for it be collected and receive a refund. If you’d like to return any of their other products, you must notify them within 14 days of receipt and the packaging must remain unopened.
Hyde & Sleep reviews
Alarmingly, some of the reviews on Hyde&Sleep are not too good. In fact they have a 2% approval rating here on Reviews.io.
For example, “Mike” had this to say:
Worst mattress I have ever had, AVOID AT ALL COST, After having the mattress for 18 months I found that it started sagging and was very uncomfortable. Even after returning from work it still sags and dose not go back into shape. I have turned the mattress over many times over the time I have had it and rotated it like it says. Now the mattress is not fit for purpose, expensive mattress with very disappointing results. I’m waiting for a reply from Dreams. I will update my review when I get a response, until then this mattress is only fit for the rubbish dump. I will stick it in the spare room and buy a old fashion mattress for the time being. Not sure if I could trust buying another memory foam mattress ever again.

Bought the orange firm mattress in November 2019 was quite comfortable for the first 2 months then we noticed a rigid down the middle and the dip either side which gradually got worse. Finally decided to go back to dreams and speak to them about it, they arranged for a mattress technician to and inspect it and because the dip either side was under the 3cm guidelines dreams refused to offer a replacement or refund. Awaiting delivery on a new mattress as we can no longer put up with pain and discomfort?. Hyde and Sleep mattresses are worthless after only 2.5 years.
It was a bad decision since day one, as it is not as breathable as the company promises. It makes you feel very hot. Now, after only two and a half years of use we will have to throw it away, as the foam has lost its shape, it is bumpy, and I wake up everyday with pain in my neck and back. We bought it directly from their webpage and it does not exists any more. I cannot found any contact from the company, only distributors. We spent £600, and it supposedly had guaranty for 10 years. “Kent” has a more favourable review:
Brought this mattress from Dreams approx 2 years ago. Was super comfortable for both of us until now that is. The mattress has suddenly developed a dip in the middle. We both have to physically pull ourselves out of it when we wake up in the morning. Weve just moved to Spain and will now have to search for something else as we cant carry on with uncomfortable nights sleep. It wasnt cheap and we chose over the competitors. Big Mistake!
As a result, I really recommend you look at other brands. There are plenty of brands of mattress that have much higher approval ratings. But let me just clarify about review websites firstly (and why they should often be taken with a pinch of salt).
Are the poor reviews to be believed?
Well, you need to make up your own mind. It’s important to understand that Hyde & Sleep reviews will mostly form part of the Dreams Trustpilot page. Why? Because there is no Hyde & Sleep website – you buy the Hyde & Sleep mattresses through the Dreams website, so this is where most people will leave a review.
Secondly, the poor reviews that rank in Google for terms like “Hyde & Sleep reviews” are actually on Reviews.io and NOT on Trustpilot. Most, if not all, mattress brands prefer Trustpilot, because they can ‘vet’ the reviews. A lot of the reviews on Trustpilot are “Invited”. You can spot an “Invited” review – in fact, it tells you:
This means that after a customer has placed an order, the Trustpilot system will invite them to leave a review. Obviously, from the company’s point of view, it makes sense for people to review the product now (or very soon after delivery), rather than in a few year’s time — as the product (mattress) may be past its best by then.
You could argue that ALL mattress brands would have equally negative reviews if they did not “Invite” users to review, so soon after checking out. After all, most consumers don’t even bother to leave a review unless it’s a negative one. Think about it: Do you review every product you buy, or just the ones that are less than satisfactory?
So in short: don’t put too much faith in review websites like Trustpilot or Reviews.io.
I’m not saying that you should be buying a Hyde&Sleep mattress and disregarding the reviews entirely, just remember that there are probably many more satisfied customers than it would appear. They don’t tend to leave reviews. Or if they do, they are on the main Dreams.co.uk Trustpilot page.
Some alternative mattress to consider, depending on budget:

Hyde & Sleep: About the Layers
Nearly all Hyde & Sleep mattresses come with four different layers and an outer cover (some websites may refer to this as “five layers”). I have quantified each of them below in more detail:
Layer 1: The first cover is breathable and soft, and this is ideal for those who worry about cooling.
Layer 2: The first ‘real’ layer is ‘Next-Gen memory foam’, which uses technology to protect against bacteria and mites while relieving your body’s pressure points and contouring to it.
Layer 3: The next layer is over 2000 so-called “micro HD” springs; these react to your body seamlessly, providing greater support without aggravations.
Layer 4: The next comfort layer is another layer of responsive HD foam that supports and also cushions.
Layer 5: The final layer is the supportive base that has ventilation channels that keep you cool but comfortable, and have the benefit of cradling the spine. Ideal for those with spinal issues who sleep on their side.

Bought this mattress 3 years ago,initially was really happy with it. But the last year I have seen it start to sink where me and my partner lay. This is disappointing considering it’s age and the price, I know feel like it’s not giving me the support and comfort from when I first used it. Not sure how the reviews are so great on other websites?? Not sure how far I would get with a complaint as it looks like Hyde & Sleep are not an independent company anymore as they are selling through the likes of dreams etc… 🙁
Saw some good reviews initially, and tried it out in Dreams. Slept well for a short while, our first hybrid mattress. A few months after it started losing its ‘memory’ and we now have a mattress that is giving us both a bad back. Looking for a replacement now, big waste of nearly £600 – avoid unless you enjoy burning money and back pain

We bought Hyde and Sleep from Dreams just over a year ago. Like others have mentioned, it dips and this is despite us turning the mattress regularly. My other frustration with this mattress, it appears like the cover comes off to wash in the invent of a spill only when I rang to enquire I was told it doesn’t unzip and can’t be washed, not surprising they don’t sell just the top cover. No way I’d ever but this mattress again the one we had from Argos was better than this and a fraction of the price!
I purchased the Hyde & Sleep Apricot Firm Mattress from Dreams in New Malden Surrey KT3 area. I laid on the reader in the Dreams Store and it said I needed a Firm Mattress. 3 potentials came through to me. I chose the one above. I quickly noticed after I received it that there was like a hard ridge in the middle of the mattress. It’s still there now. We turn the mattress around as suggested but this doesn’t make any difference. I initially thought that it was caused by only laying on one side of the dreams monitor to get my reading. As it was only me sleeping in the bed usually on one side. So thought the reading might have been compromised. As I didn’t lay on the other side atall during this reading. Anyway when I turn over it’s like I have to haul myself over this ridge. If I lay on it. It hurts my hip. I must admit i am a bigger woman. But had hoped that a memory foam mattress would have solved my hip and back problems. As my old style spring mattress was digging into me. And causing me immense pain. I suffer from sciatica and lower back pain so thought a memory foam mattress would help. Not so sure now. Because of this ridge or some people are calling it dipping on here. Now considering getting rid and buying another type. But all are very expensive. This one wasn’t cheap either for my budget.
I bought that mattress during first lock down. Felt very good and comfy. I have got the orange very firm one.
After 3/4 months we realised that it’s dipping in the middle though I was doing it head to toe every week.
The mattress was two inch small then 4.6” I checked with dream last week and they are sending independent contractor to check the fault.
I am not happy with the mattress as it’s dipping in the middle.
I saw another post here saying that 10 years guarantee was in the website but no receipt was emailed to us. That happened to me as well. It’s a scum.
Do not buy this mattress.
Go to a local shop and you find a better mattress that branded one
i have always been a fan of dreams but this is just a poor choice and I feel sorry for people who have bought it like my mum she refuses to admit it but i can tell as a mattress goes its really not good quality and made in china i personaly bought simba as they are much better value i have a referral code to use [removed] if you use it you get 200 off xxx
I have had nothing but good things from my Hyde and sleep mattress. I bought it from the Dreams website and it came very quickly too even during Corona. As a housewife, this was much welcomed.
