The Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress is taking the mattress industry by storm. Not only does it offer amazing comfort that feels like you’re sleeping on a cloud, but it also comes approved by health professionals. Both physiotherapists and osteopaths have recommended the Supreme hybrid mattress, and there’s a good reason for this. Sleeping on the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress offers a feeling like no other. And the best thing about it? It won’t break the bank either.

One of the key features of the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress is the fact that it can offer unparalleled body weight distribution. It does this by reducing pressure points thanks to its 7 different comfort zones. This mattress offers support for your head, shoulders, knees, hips and – most importantly  -your back.

Hypnia Supreme Hybrid Mattress: Quick facts

This review of the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress is quite detailed. If you don’t have the time to read it, here are the main pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Comfortable, hotel-like feel
  • Excellent value for money
  • Even distribution of body weight across key areas
  • Long, 15-year warranty

Cons:

  • The cover is not removable, so can’t be washed easily
  • Only available in medium-firm
  • This mattress is known for off-gassing

One of the first signs that we were in for a good experience is the fact that the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress was delivered quickly. We ordered our mattress for testing on Tuesday, and we received the mattress on Thursday. And the great thing is that we didn’t have to pay fo0r this privilege because delivery was free. The whole delivery process was smooth due to the great communication from Hypnia. And we even got a courtesy call around an hour before they delivered the mattress.

A note about delivery

Bear in mind that this mattress is a hybrid containing both foam and springs so it’s very heavy. Hypnia can’t guarantee delivery to a room of your choice, unless you pay an extra fee. This fee also includes the disposal of your old mattress. The delivery team were able to bring it inside and put it in my bedroom for me. However if for any reason they can’t take it upstairs you will need at least one other person to help you. The mattress comes rolled up and wrapped in plastic. Therefore it’s much easier to move if you leave it that way until it’s on the bed.

When you do start to unwrap the mattress from its packaging though you will notice one thing: the smell. The chemicals used in the process of making this mattress have a smell to them which some people find unpleasant. These gasses are not in any way harmful. However if you are easily offended by smells then you may wish to leave the mattress alone for a while off-gassing occurs.

First impressions

First impressions are that the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress seems to be a little bit on the firmer side of what we were expecting. The Hypnia website rates it as ‘balanced-firm’, which is what we would call medium-firm. However there is no industry-recognised scale for grading firmness so this information isn’t very useful. We’ve reviewed a lot of different mattresses now and the this Hypnia would definitely be more towards the firmer side in our opinion.

That’s not to say it’s not a very comfortable mattress. Unless you are specifically looking for something a little bit softer then it’s highly unlikely that you will be disappointed with the Hypnia. The fact that this mattress is comfortable yet firmer shows that the memory foam within it is doing its job very well. After sleeping on this mattress we have no reports of any aches or pains so it’s all good.

Motion transfer

Despite the fact that Hypnia themselves say that it will probably take a few days to get used to their new mattress, we began to feel the difference after just one night. We got a very good night’s sleep on the Supreme Hybrid. Motion transfer is heavily reduced compared to many other mattresses both within this price tier and on the higher ones. This is a good thing for couples. It means that one of you won’t be able to disturb the other with your movements throughout the night. This alone is probably a great factor in getting a good night’s sleep when you are part of a couple.

Cooling properties

One of the most common complaints about memory foam is the fact that it can make people hot during the night which of course reduces their ability to get sleep or the quality of sleep that they get. Hybrid mattresses contain memory foam as well as springs so it’s quite common to get similar complains with a hybrid mattress. However we are pleased to report that we had no problems with the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress. This could well be thanks to the bamboo fibres that are used in it’s composition, which we will cover in more depth later on.

Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress composition

The Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress is designed with comfort in mind. Consisting of five layers, Hypnia have designed each layer so that it can eliminate common problems that can develop in mattresses and affect the quality of your sleep.

The design under the cover features the following five layers, totalling to impressive 300mm of thickness:

Foam and fabric

  • A top layer of breathable fabric lies underneath the cover. This layer is predominantly to add the feeling of comfort alongside the cover itself which is soft and pleasing to the touch. The key feature of this fabric is that it is breathable, which helps with the overall ability of the mattress to circulate air. This is great news for those who tend to sleep on the hot side, or just generally for those hot summer nights.
  • Underneath the layer of top fabric lies a layer of memory foam. This is especially designed to provide seven different zones of support to give your various body parts the right amount of support where they need it. Namely these are your head, shoulders, knees, hips and of course your back.
  • Beneath the layer of memory foam could be the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid’s secret weapon. This is the latex layer. An overall great layer to put in a mattress because not only does it have cooling properties, but it also improves overall comfort due to the fact that it is soft while also being strong.
  • Hypnia have included a cleverly-designed layer of latex underneath the honeycomb foam. This foam helps to keep your body correctly aligned during the night to make sure that you are comfortable for the entire night. We think it could be this layer that helps to reduce the motion transfer, which really is a game-changer when you are sharing your bed with another person.

Springs

And of course no hybrid mattress would be complete if it didn’t have a layer of pocket springs. Springs are great to use in mattresses for two reasons. The first is that they are strong and supportive, which means that the mattress will keep its shape. The second, lesser-known advantage of using pocket springs inside a mattress is the fact that they can go a long way into keeping everything cool and hygienic. The shape of springs means that there is a lot of airflow around them which makes for a very breathable layer. Combine this with the bamboo fibres on the higher layer and you can see why the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid is a safe pair of hands for those who tend to sleep hot too.

Hypnia Supreme Hybrid trial period and warranty

Hypnia are so confident that you will love their Supreme Hybrid mattress that they are offering a 200-night trial. This is to make sure that you have ample to time to get used to your new mattress before deciding whether it’s the right mattress for you or not. This is nothing unusual. In fact most manufacturers offer a similar length of trial period. However it’s still a good feature that gives you complete peace of mind.

Where Hypnia seems to stand above the rest is when it comes to their guarantee. Most manufacturers offer some form of guarantee ranging from one to five years, with the more premium brands offering a 10-year guarantee in some cases. Hypnia offer a 15-yuear guarantee which is the highest we’ve seen. They say that they guarantee comfort and quality for up to 15 years and all for a fair price. And we must admit we can’t argue with that.

Hypnia Supreme Hybrid price

So how much will the guarantee of comfort and quality for up to 15 years cost you? Well not as much as you may think. Despite having many features that are also seen in some of the most premium mattresses, the Hypnia Supreme actually falls within the lower end of the midrange price scale. The prices for the various sizes that the Supreme Hybrid comes in are as follows:

SizePrice
Single£399
Small Double£479
Double£539
King£599
Super King£679
Euro Single£399
Euro Double£499

As you can see at this price point there are a few choices of hybrid mattress, but none of the others comes close to the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress in terms of quality and features offered.

So if you’re looking for a comfortable, quality hybrid mattress that doesn’t break the bank then you could do far worse than the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid. It comes with all of the main features of many other premium mattresses that are available. The main difference is that it’s available at a much lower price point. Is it perfect? Not quite but very nearly. The main thing that lets this mattress down is the fact that it doesn’t have a removable, washable cover. If you can find a way to get around this issue then you can almost consider the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid mattress as a cheap Brook and Wilde Ultima or similar. In other words if you want the best value for money from a Hybrid mattress, buy the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid . We’ve tested many similar mattresses and nothing else compares.
